Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Nick LaLota voted against Jim Jordan for speaker on Wednesday. AdvertisementAdvertisementTwo Republican representatives said they've received death threats since they voted against fellow GOP Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker of the House. "My vote card belongs to me and the people of NY's First Congressional District," LaLota wrote. In response to the series of threats and vitriol spewed at Miller-Meeks, LaLota, and Bacon in recent days, Jordan wrote online that he condemns "all threats against our colleagues." That first occurred on Tuesday, when 18 Republicans voted for candidates other than Jordan and sunk his first speaker bid.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja last month revealed he had approached the ICC about reducing penalties for slow over-rates in test matches after the governing body announced it had decided to soften sanctions. Khawaja said it was "really frustrating" for players to lose their match fees despite delivering entertaining matches. The hosts beat Australia by 49 runs in the fifth and final Ashes test at The Oval on Monday, securing a 2-2 series draw. Australia are third in the WTC standings, while England are placed fifth. LONDON, June 11 (Reuters) - For Australia captain Pat Cummins, Sunday's crushing victory over India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final signalled a perfect start to what he hopes will be a "legacy defining" stay in England. It's not going to be easy but if we were to win it, that is legacy defining stuff." Their WTC triumph was hailed by the International Cricket Council, who wrote on Twitter: "The all-conquering Australia have now won every ICC Men's Trophy". That bulging trophy cabinet includes five 50-over World Cups, one T20 World Cup, two Champions Trophy prizes and now the WTC mace. "To make it to the (WTC) final you've got to win everywhere in the world.

Australia will be eager to tighten their grip on the match as they lead India by 196 runs, with Usman Khawaja batting on 13 along with Marnus Labuschagne on eight. While Thakur lived dangerously, Rahane went about rescuing India's hopes with his mix of delectable shot selection in the 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket. While he fell 11 runs short of scoring a century in the second over after lunch, the 35-year-old crossed 5000 test runs during his 129-ball knock which included 11 fours and a six. Following Rahane's departure, Thakur steered India past the follow-on target before bringing up his 50 with a sumptuous four. Blinking rapidly, he hurriedly grabbed his bat to make his way to the crease and made sure Australia reached tea without losing any further wickets.

After Usman Khawaja fell for a duck, Warner shared a 69-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne, who reached 26 not out, to steady the innings. Shardul Thakur dismissed Warner for 43 in the penultimate over before lunch. Earlier, India did not have to wait long for a breakthrough after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and inserted Australia on a grassy wicket. After a quiet opening hour, Warner cut loose and hit Umesh Yadav for four fours, including three in a row, in an over. Shardul Thakur had two lbw appeals against Labuschagne turned down and India reviewed both decisions but could not get them reversed.

June 3 (Reuters) - Australia opener David Warner said he will call time on his test career after playing against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) next January, if he is still in the team by then. When available, Warner has been a fixture at the top of the Australian order since his debut in 2011 but his place in the side for the World Test Championship final and Ashes series has been called into question after a run of poor form. The 36-year-old said on Saturday that he wanted to play on until the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup but would call time on his test career after the third test against Pakistan, before the two-match series against West Indies that follows. I've always said the World Cup will be my final game," Warner told reporters in Beckenham, England. "If I get through this and I can make the Pakistan series, I will definitely finish up then."

May 5 (Reuters) - Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul has been ruled out of the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season and India's World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia after he said on Friday he would undergo surgery on his thigh. He could not open Lucknow's innings in the run-chase but came out to bat at number 11. "After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it's been concluded that I'll be undergoing a surgery on my thigh shortly," Rahul wrote on Instagram. Lucknow are second in the IPL standings with 11 points, one behind leaders Gujarat Titans who have a game in hand. The surgery will also rule Rahul out of the WTC final against Australia at the Oval from June 7-11.
